These Terms and Conditions are designed to ensure all driving lessons are conducted safely, professionally, and fairly for both the pupil and instructor.
They explain how lessons are carried out at RPT Driver Training and outline important information regarding lesson bookings, cancellations, payments, driving test use, and pupil responsibilities.
By booking and attending lessons with RPT Driver Training, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions.
You must hold a valid UK or Northern Ireland provisional Category B driving licence before any driving lesson can take place.
Your instructor may ask to see your driving licence at any time.
For motorway lessons, refresher lessons, Pass Plus lessons, or use of the tuition vehicle for a driving test, you must hold the appropriate valid full licence entitlement.
It is your responsibility to ensure your licence remains valid and legal for driving tuition.
You must meet the minimum legal eyesight requirement and be able to read a standard UK number plate from a distance of 20 metres in good daylight conditions.
If glasses or contact lenses are required to meet this standard, they must be worn whenever you drive.
You must inform your instructor immediately of any medical condition, injury, medication, or change in circumstances that could affect your ability or legal entitlement to drive.
Examples include:
Epilepsy
Fainting episodes
Visual impairments
Any condition requiring notification to the DVLA
Lessons must be paid for in advance or at the start of the lesson unless otherwise agreed.
Accepted payment methods:
Bank transfer
Cash
Lessons may be refused if payment has not been made.
Any lessons paid for in advance are non-transferable unless agreed otherwise.
A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or rearrange a driving lesson.
Lessons cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be charged in full.
Cancellations should be made by telephone call or text message and must be acknowledged by your instructor.
If your instructor arrives at the agreed pick-up location at the arranged time and you do not attend, your instructor will wait for up to 10 minutes unless contact has been made.
After this time, the lesson will be treated as a missed lesson and charged in full.
If you arrive late, your lesson may still finish at the originally agreed time.
Your instructor will always aim to arrive on time and provide lessons as scheduled.
However, due to circumstances outside reasonable control, including:
Vehicle breakdowns
Traffic delays
Illness
Severe weather
Emergencies
lessons may occasionally need to be rearranged or cancelled.
If your instructor cancels a lesson, no lesson fee will be charged.
You must not attend lessons under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any substance that may impair your ability to drive safely.
This includes certain prescribed medications.
If your instructor believes you are unfit to drive safely, the lesson will be cancelled immediately and charged in full.
Seatbelts must be worn unless you are medically exempt.
RPT Driver Training aims to provide a calm, professional, and respectful learning environment.
Aggressive, abusive, threatening, or inappropriate behaviour towards your instructor will not be tolerated.
Smoking and vaping are not permitted in the tuition vehicle.
Your instructor reserves the right to terminate a lesson immediately if they believe safety or professional standards are being compromised.
Your instructor reserves the right to refuse use of the tuition vehicle for a practical driving test if, in their professional opinion:
Your driving standard is not yet safe or test-ready
You are not in a fit condition to drive
You do not hold the correct licence entitlement
The vehicle could be placed at risk
This decision is made in the interests of safety for the pupil, examiner, instructor, and other road users.
We cannot accept responsibility for driving tests cancelled by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for reasons outside our control.
This includes:
Bad weather
Examiner illness
Industrial action
DVSA operational issues
DVSA technical issues
Government restrictions
Any fees relating to cancelled tests remain the responsibility of the pupil unless caused by the condition of the tuition vehicle.
We cannot accept responsibility if a driving test cannot proceed due to eyesight failure, invalid documentation, or failure to meet DVSA requirements.
Mobile phone use during lessons should be kept to an absolute minimum unless directly related to the lesson.
Your instructor may ask for phones to be silenced or put away where necessary for safety and concentration.
No refunds will be given for lessons already completed.
Any refunds for prepaid lessons remain at the discretion of RPT Driver Training.
RPT Driver Training cannot accept responsibility for personal belongings left in the tuition vehicle.
Any personal information provided to RPT Driver Training will only be used for lesson administration, communication, and legal record keeping.
Your information will not be shared with third parties unless legally required to do so.
Booking and attending lessons with RPT Driver Training confirms acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
RPT Driver Training reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions where necessary.
