What areas do you cover in Halifax?
I provide driving lessons in Halifax and surrounding areas including Copley, Boothtown, Halifax Town Centre, Illingworth, Ovenden, Mixenden, Pellon, King Cross, Siddal, Warley, Sowerby Bridge (before Tuel Lane) and Wheatley.
2. Do you offer manual or automatic lessons?
RPT Driver Training currently offers manual driving lessons.
3. How many driving lessons will I need?
There is no fixed number of lessons. Everyone learns at a different rate depending on previous experience, confidence, private practice and how quickly they develop the skills needed to drive safely and independently.
Learning to drive is like learning any important skill — it takes time, practice and experience. The aim isn't to reach the driving test in the fewest possible hours, but to develop the judgement, awareness and control needed to make safe decisions independently.
Private practice, where available, can give you valuable additional experience alongside professional lessons.
4. Do you offer intensive or fast-track driving courses?
Unfortunately, I do not offer intensive or fast-track driving courses at this time.

5. How do I book a driving lesson?
Complete my short enquiry form with your location, driving experience and available times. I’ll review your details and let you know whether I can offer a suitable lesson slot.

6. Can you pick me up from home, college or work?
Yes. I offer flexible pick-up and drop-off locations within Halifax and the surrounding areas.
7. What is your cancellation policy?
I require at least 24 hours’ notice for cancellations. Late cancellations may be charged to cover costs.
8. Do you help with driving theory test preparation?
Yes. I provide theory test support and guidance, including recommended apps, resources and help with understanding theory questions.
9. Are you a fully qualified instructor?
Yes. I am a DVSA-approved driving instructor with experience helping new drivers learn safely and confidently.
10. Do you provide motorway or refresher lessons?
Yes. I offer motorway lessons, refresher lessons, confidence-building sessions and post-test training.
11. How much do driving lessons cost?
Driving lessons cost £40 per hour.
12. Do you offer block booking discounts?
Unfortunately, I do not offer block booking discounts.
13. What car will I learn to drive in?
Lessons take place in a modern, dual-controlled manual Ford Focus, designed to provide a safe and comfortable environment while you learn.
14. How long is each driving lesson?
Driving lessons are typically 1 or 2 hours long, depending on your preference and availability.
15. Do I need to pass my theory test before starting lessons?
No. You can start practical driving lessons before passing your theory test. However, you must pass the theory test before booking your practical driving test.
16. Can you help me book my driving test?
Yes. I can explain the booking process and help you understand when you may be ready, but you must make and manage the booking yourself.
17. Do you teach nervous or anxious drivers?
Yes. I specialise in helping nervous or anxious learners build confidence and progress at a comfortable pace.
18. What age can I start driving lessons?
Most people can start driving lessons at 17, provided they have a valid provisional driving licence. Some people receiving the enhanced rate of the mobility component of Personal Independence Payment may be able to start at 16.
19. Where is the nearest driving test centre in Halifax?
The nearest test centre for learners in Halifax is the Halifax Driving Test Centre. During lessons, we practise on local roads and the types of driving situations you may encounter during your test to help you feel confident and prepared.
20. How quickly can I start driving lessons in Halifax?
Lesson availability varies depending on current bookings. I always try to offer the earliest available lesson slots and flexible times to suit work, school or college schedules.

21. What should I bring to my first driving lesson?
You will need to bring your valid UK provisional driving licence to your first lesson. It’s also helpful to wear comfortable shoes suitable for driving. I will explain the controls of the car and begin with the basic driving skills appropriate to your experience.
22. Can I practise driving with family or friends between lessons?
Yes. Private practice alongside professional lessons can help you develop your skills and gain experience.
Your supervisor must be at least 21, hold a full driving licence from the UK, EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein for at least three years, and be qualified to drive the car you are using. For practice in a manual car, they must hold a full manual licence. They must not be disqualified from driving.
You must be insured to drive the car as a learner, display L plates at the front and rear, and check any additional conditions in your insurance policy.
You cannot practise on motorways with family or friends. Learner motorway driving requires an approved driving instructor and a car fitted with dual controls.

23. What happens during a driving lesson?
Each lesson has a goal based on your needs and progress. That goal may change during the lesson as we identify what would help you most.
We develop car control, awareness, forward planning, judgement and anticipation through situations such as junctions, roundabouts and parking. At the end, we reflect on what you’ve learnt and agree a goal for your next lesson.
24. What happens if I fail my driving test?
If you fail your practical driving test, you will receive feedback explaining the faults that occurred during the test. This helps you understand what needs further development before taking another test.
25. Can you book the driving test for me?
No. Unfortunately, driving instructors are no longer allowed to book driving tests on behalf of their pupils.
26. What do I need to know about the driving test booking changes?
There have been changes to the driving test booking system and what driving instructors are allowed to do on behalf of their pupils.
